Life`s alright...although for the past couple days my companion has not wanted to do much of anything...soo...that means lots of scripture reading for me. Oh well...we`ve got changes on the 2nd of december. 1 more week. (should be able to finish the BOM by then for the second time in my mission)

Oh in the package can you ask dad to send you my patriarcle blessing and send that too...I don`t have a copy of mine and I don`t think dad is every going to send mine through email...sooo..yeah...if you could ask him that would be great.
anywho...my companion is from Guatamala city Guatamala. Pretty good at teaching when he puts forth the effort. My spanish has improved a ton. Although teaching for me is difficult. For some reason or another the people cant understand me...Im pretty sure Im saying the right things but yeah...

Well anywho gotta run
Write you again next week.

How is everyone doing these days? As for me I`m doing pretty well. We had a baptism this past week and now we are going to see if we can teach her sisters as they have noticed the change that she has experienced in her life.
We had a meeting with President Perez last week/ interviews. But in these interviews I found out that I will probably be transferred to the jungle the next change in 2 weeks. Hopefully I`ll be able to stay there for the majority of my mission because the people there are a lot more open and receptive to the gospel. Which should help me as I have trouble talking to people here in Huacho.(majority of people really don`t want anything to do with the church) Also I am led to believe that I have a cough like I had when I was in Arequipa. I`ve been thinking that it might be caused by air pollution or dust that is constantly in the air here. We`ll have to wait and see when I get to the jungle areas (trees exist there so the air is cleaner) But anyways I`ve gotta get going. Oh can you please send me my patriarchal blessing to me in an email? I have not received any packages or letters so I`m thinking the package you sent before might have been lost. Thanks a lot! EEKK...!!! Swine flu! Peruvians are quite paranoid about that kind of stuff...Hopefully everyone gets well soon.
But yeah I`ve had 7 baptisms since being here. 2 of which where on saturday. One in particular was a 20 year old girl who bascially had a testimony before we even started teaching her. A text message that was accidently sent to her from someone else sparked her interest in the church along with a few of her friends asking her if she wanted to come to church. But her baptism went very well.
I`m currently in my 2nd cambio or change ( cant quite remember what they call it in english. ) but I`m still in Huacho. Although I think I might be going to somewhere in the Jungle for the next change. Pretty exciting...specially since I think the air here makes me sick. I`ve been sneezing a bajillion times every day, constantly running nose, and a cough.(kinda like the one I had when I was in Arequipa. So I think I might say something to the MIssion president when he comes for interviews. That way I wont have to be in Lima or Norte Chico (the area where I`m in right now) for most or all of my mission as theres a lot of air polution here.

Well anyways Chirsty I`ve gotta go now But thanks for writing me!

PS...send this to dad and michael and annamarie and Marianne..

PPS....Tell dad to scan my patriarcle blessing and send it to me before this coming monday.

THANKS A BUNCH!!!

Fwd: Hola from Minnesota!

Here's an e-mail from James, in response to one I sent to him yesterday.

It`s always fun to read stuff ryan says. but no I didn`t get the email from Ryan. (sometimes stuff doesn`t get here) So I did my first 3 baptisms on Saturday! The water was kinda cold. But it went pretty well.

Oh about those apples...they`ll be ready about the time I get back...Great!!! Boy does your shelf look sharp...might just have to spend a few weeks with you and build something when I get back.

So apparently I talk when I sleep. The other night my comp said that I said "Y tu?, Por donde te vas?" rolled over and said "ah  ya, ok" well....I even talk in spanish when I`m not conscious. That`s about it from the world of Elder Moore these days. Love you all ttyl!

A letter form Ryan (and James' response)

Dear Elder Moore,

I love you and I really like you a lot and I love you and I love you
very lots. And did you know that my grandma has lots and lots of
garage doors? 2 garage doors! Lately I have been doing garage doors
and playing with my magna doodle. I like using the shape magnets to
draw pictures. It is turning into fall outside, because it's getting
windy and cold and leaves are falling off the trees. So what do you
eat in Peru? What is your favorite food? Mine is pancakes and eggs.
Do you like being a missionary? So, James, my testimony is about I
know that the scriptures are true. I know that Jesus wants us to come
to church and that he loves us. I love you, James, and I miss you!

Love,
Ryan

well hello there dad! P day again. So this week has been pretty good. Weve got 4 baptisms lined up for this coming week. We will see how that goes. But anyways not much else has happened. well new at least. So I guess I have to wait till the next change of companions before I can get my package. Yuck its a long ways away. Basically means I cant really get anything for long periods of time if im away from lima. Well anyways I will talk to you later.

Well Chirsty I know you will do great in school this year. You always
do. But yeah I moved on wednesday of last week. I`m now in Huacho Peru
which is about 3 hours north of Lima. I do like it better than Lima
thats for sure. Its a lot smaller which means Its a lot harder to get
lost. Right now I`m teaching a family with my companion that has a
girl about your age! I think she is doing pretty well in learning the
gospel. She`s been keeping the commitments to read and pray so
hopefully we can set a baptism date sometime in the near future.

Well gotta run. Talk to you later!

Dear Family Moore,

The Peru Lima North Mission is sending this letter in behalf of President Carlos A. Perez. Attached are two pictures of your son also with directions on how you must send letters and packages to the north mission. There is also a scanned letter attached, written by your son, informing you that he has arrived safely. Taking advantage of this opportunity we congratulate you for sending such a fine young man, who has been well prepared to serve the Lord in this great work. We don´t doubt that this time is a time of joy and happiness for you and your family. The Lord will bless you for this sacrifice and service.

last week in MTC

Michael,

This weeks is my last week in the MTC. Which means I get sent
somewhere next wednesday...not sure if I will be here in Lima or in
some other city. We will just have to see. So I gave a referal for a
family in Arequipa (Ximena´s family) and the missionaries went to
their house. They taught the first lesson and apparently it went
pretty well. Hopefuly they will want to continue learning. Crossing my
fingers on that one! So tell everyone that I´m doing pretty well.
Hopefuly the kids are liking school I beleive it starts or started
this week. Kinda strange to think that its already been 2 months I
suppose it will go a lot quicker than I think it is. Someone said that
the days are like weeks and the weeks are like days. Which I can
probably agree with. So what´s the news with everyone? what has
everyone been doing? Well anywho gotta run! talk to you all later!

Elder Moore

hello there...I sent an email to Michael earlier...so he´ll send it around. Well here are some pics. pics...the dog was on the street and that was in a museum...they turned the vault into a exibit of incan gold.

So right now I´m waiting to go to the temple. It is quite different doing it all in spanish. So I´m excited to get the big envelope michael said was sent to the mission home...I can only wonder what kind of things Dad and everyone included as Dad likes to send strange thigns sometimes. Well anywho I've gotta get going now I´ll talk to you later!

And Another One

you guys can write back more often you know :)

Another One from James

This is a picture of an area that is similar to the one I will be serving in...Northern Lima is the poorer half of Lima.

Email from James

here´s some more! the one of the building is the guards kinda like the ones in the UK we missed the changing of the guards ceramony thing they have everyday but apparently we will be going another time so hopefully I´ll be able to get pictures of that when we go.

Emails from James

Well you can pass this email along to others if you´d like. So today I got to go take a tour of the Plaza de Armas of Lima...and see some governmental buildings and a museum and also eat at Pizza Hut but this Pizza Hut was very upscale as in they served wine and stuff like that there quite strange. The museum was pretty darn cool as it was A. an old bank and B. it´s vault is used to hold gold artifacts. Pretty neat I took a few pictures from there. Then we went and took píctures in the Plaza De Armas. Its pretty big comparing it to the one in Arequipa...Although its quite smoggy here so its not quite as pretty in my opinion. well anyways heres the attached pics.

Pics from James

hello there I´ve only got 9 more minutes to write so its gonna be short...ask chirsty to forward what I sent her.
I beleive there is a way to send dear elders to me where they print them out...otherwise I end up using all my time reading the email rather than typing. Anywho I´m doing pretty well. live is pretty much the same every day....class study gym...etc (except the fact that in gym we do exercises with big rubber bands) anyways Gotta run ttyl!
"hey there Christy! things are going pretty good here...I only get to check my email once a week every wednesday so if you want to hear something from me you gotta send it on tuesday or before. Things are going pretty well here...There´s a small chance that I might be able to leave the MTC early but its pretty small...so hoping for the best though. Life is pretty much the same everyday here...wake up study class bfast class lunch teaching practice dinner teaching practice class bed....everyday..oh well it´s not too bad. Well anywho I gotta get going now... Love you lots...show this email to dad and everyone else. Talk to you all later."

Thursday, July 30, 2009

well I made it into lima at around 11:30 then had to deal with all the red tape there is here with immigration. We finally left the airport at around 1:30 and then arrived at the MTC here at around 2 am. Over all it was an alright trip...didn´t get sick this time which was a good thing :P well anyways I gotta get going now so I guess I'll talk to you all later.

Going into the MTC

Here's a picture of James going into the MTC. Susan had it on her Blackberry, and I transferred it off with Bluetooth when she was out in Minneapolis to visit last weekend.

Letter from James to Michael, Caroline, Ryan and Calvin

Hey there Michael Caroline Ryan + calvin!

Thanks for the cookies & letters & drawings they were AWESOME! So I've only got 9 more days here in the MTC. Pretty exciting if you ask me. So I've been Able to go to the temple here and its been pretty cool. I enjoy it a lot. I pick up on a lot more than I did the first time I went.

Classes have been coming along alright I guess. I'm in the intermediate group (ie. not native speaker) but I've got a lot to learn. Mostly because I don't know the vocab dealing with the gospel & I also really don't know formal grammar which I need to use as a missionary.

I've yet to master the pen spinning that everyone here does. Just can't do it. Oh well maybe one day. So anyways I was thinking that when I get back I'm going to get a Ham Radio & license. I think that would be fun to do. Then I could join the Ham Radio club at BYU with one of my friends.

Well anyways Thanks again for the letters. I'll be sending some pictures home before I leave for Peru for someone to put up on the blog Talk to you later

PS. Send me a genealogy chart with 4 generations & some storeis about the people please! Thanks a bunch!

Today in History

Today is the day Machu Picchu was discovered! Happy Machu Picchu Day! (In 1911 by Hiram Bingham.)

From Dad

In his letter this week, when I asked him about not having a computer and ipod:

"Nope, haven't really had withdrawls and life moves on."

Also:

"Although I really have come to like the classical music that I brought with me."

Who knew?

Cookies!

So, the boys and I decided to send our very first care package to Elder Moore on Wednesday. I've never had a missionary in the family, so I think this is fun! So, we made him some cookies and wrote some letters and sent them off. Ryan had so much fun making the cookies and eating the dough. Check out our cookies:

Ryan very excited about cracking an egg all by himself:

Cracking the egg...

Doing a little quality assurance:

Calvin getting in on the action:

Finished Product!

It says "We heart you, Elder Moore"

And in honor of Elder Moore, Ryan also wrote real letters and words for the very first time, which was pretty cute. Now every time I refer to him as "James", Ryan corrects me and says, "No, Mom, we call him Elder Moore now."

Here's Ryan, hard at work on the letter. As you can see, I wrote it out for him on a separate paper and he did his best to copy the letters:

Here is his 2 page letter! It says "Elder Moore, I Love You, Ryan."

We are so excited for James and Ryan is even getting excited to be a missionary, just like Elder Moore. We miss him already!

First Email from James

hello everyone so I've been in the MTC for a week now and it has been pretty good. The food is not all that great I guess...its just the food that I had all year last year at BYU. So my spanish is pretty good I guess too...I need to learn the vocab that deals with the gospel and also formal grammar..neither of which I know very well. They put me in the intermediate group...which is prolly where I should be. The advanced class is for those who usually have spanish as their first language...so they just learn the discussions and then they leave. I will hopefully be leaving Provo on the 29th. That would be dependent on how well the Peruvian buracracy works....which may mean I'll be here a tad bit longer. Oh my new email address I guess is (contact AnnaMarie or Michael for this address). So you could send stuff here...although I only have a 5 mb limit on my box so don't send me anything big. From what I hear in my mission I'll be able to use my Gmail account so you can probably send me pictures and stuff like that there once I get there.
I have 2 pretty cool companions (Elder Hulet from Texas and Elder Shiffler from Oregon) we get along pretty well. So anyways I gotta get going now I'll write again soon.

Love
Elder Moore
